Today June 26th 2013 the supreme court over turned both DOMA and prop 8. No single day has had the same overarching positive affect on the LGBT rights movement as today. Though it is far from a universal law, and there are some whom will argue the grounds which these laws were revoked, I believe that all people can agree that today gave some people hope who had less the day before. I also believe that over 90% of the US population enjoy federal holidays. Having a federal holiday given will in celebration of human rights will give people time to reflect. Additionally, for those individuals who might not know any LGBT members of the United States it will give them at least one positive aspect in hopes of replacing any negative stereotypes they were exposed to.
