No character in film history better exemplifies America better than King Kong:
-He is fearsome when attacked but is
capable of great mercy;
-Like our forefathers he overcame an oppressive regime determined to keep him locked down;
-Like America in WWII he defeated the Japanese (in the form of Godzilla);
-Though possibly misguided, he has a heart of gold and was simply trying to do what he thought was right, though the heavens fall; and
-He represents the constant, ongoing struggle of freedom against those who oppose freedom by exploitation.
What is America if not a good-hearted giant ape who tries to do the right thing and even if he fails he gets up, dusts himself off and keeps on going (for 12 more films)?
