This shooting left 12 soldiers and a civilian dead. It also left about 30 others wounded, some seriously. It is known that the shooter was at least inspired by prominent members of terrorist organizations, most notably Anwar al-Aulaqi.
However, top official have refused to call what happened terrorism. Instead, they prefer to call it workplace violence. This designation is repulsive and disrespectful to all those affected by the tragedy. Furthermore it denies purple hearts and other accommodations to those whom were killed or injured. This is a battle that has been going on for over three years. These individuals should not have to fight for what they are entitled to. It is time that our leaders put their egos and pride aside and admit that what happened was an act of terrorism.
