Declare National Dog Day a Federal Holiday!

Created by B.M. on August 21, 2014

August 26th is the 10th anniversary of National Dog Day, a day to celebrate our canine companions and help raise awareness for dog adoptions. It would also be a great day to recognize the important role that dogs have played in American history. George Washington loved his dogs and actually bred a particular type of dog in the Virginia hound. Warren G. Harding's dog, Laddie Boy, was the first celebrity dog of the White House. Harding even held parties for his beloved pup! We've also had Fala, Liberty, Millie, Buddy, and many more, not to forget current White House dogs Bo and Sunny. This federally recognized public holiday would be a great way to end the summer, with parties and puppy parades held to celebrate our beloved dogs of this great nation!
