Education is an issue. We all agree on that. We are not adequately preparing our young people to compete in a global workforce.
Other countries are doing better. Their students perform better on tests. Our students need to do better on tests. Let’s give them more tests. Make them do more work. Fill their brains with more stuff. Fill their nights with more stuff. Fill their lives with more stuff.
But when do they get to think? When do they get to wonder? When do they get to explore their world and themselves and form opinions and ideals and personality? When do they get to breathe?
Let’s give them a break from their overly dictated lives, a reprieve from schools reaching into their home lives. Let’s give them their lives back. Let’s set them free.
