Many first responders have given their lives to assist others, most recently the Boston Fire Department said goodbye to two of their own. These brave men and women rush to a scene while others flee. The training is extensive, yet the risk of injury is still there whether it's from a raging fire, an active shooter, or a multi-car accident in a blizzard. The families of those who gave their lives in the line of duty and those who protect our lives deserve our thank you's and prayers. In 2013, 104 firefighters, 105 officers, 19 medics and flight crew members gave their lives. We ask that the second Sunday in September be set aside in the United States of America as a National Day of Remembrance and Prayer for First Responders.
