We the people ask the federal government to Take or explain a position on an issue or policy:

Declare Standing Rock a National Monument to Stop the Dakota Access Pipeline and Preserve Sacred Lands

Created by D.R. on November 30, 2016

I write with profound hope for peaceful resolution to the dispute at Standing Rock.

This petition calls for President Obama to utilize the powers granted to him under The Antiquities Act of 1906 to declare these lands National Monuments and ensure their preservation for future generations.

"Since Theodore Roosevelt created the Antiquities Act, nearly every president has used it to protect well known and lesser-known historical, cultural and natural icons."

These historical lands need to be officially recognized by the U.S. government as significant cultural icons.

President Obama holds the power to resolve this situation through presidential proclamation.

We the People demand that our President, Barack Obama, does just that.
