Declare the term "Super Bowl" to be public domain not subject to trademark infringement

Created by D.W. on January 28, 2013

The term "Super Bowl" is fast becoming a generic Trademark. NFL teams receive public support in tax dollars when building stadiums, requesting flyovers from military units during games, police protection etc. Yet when the corner bar or Knights of Columbus puts up "Super Bowl Party" on their marquee, they risk a cease and desist letter or lawsuit from the NFL. I request the US government to use its power of eminent domain to acquire the term "Super Bowl" and place it in the public domain where it belongs. It may take legislation to accomplish this but I believe this will sail through as a bipartisan issue which time has come. "Big Game" just doesn't cut it.
