On the third Monday in April in 2013, two bombs were blown up near the finish line of the 117th Boston Marathon, devastating the city of Boston and all of America. Three innocent people, including eight year old Martin Richard, were killed, and 200+ wounded. Boston and the United States came together to support the victims and honor first responders who saved lives, and the capture of a primary suspect would not have been possible without the people of the Boston area's resilience and cooperation.
The Boston Marathon, the oldest annual Marathon in the nation, has, is, and will always be the iconic Marathon of the United States. It now not only is historic and world famous, but represents the nation's resilience in tough times.
The third Monday in April should be National Marathon Day.
