Over 20 people have been murdered in the United States this year alone just because they were transgender. Their deaths go largely unreported and unsolved.
The homicide rate of transgender people is roughly 1 in 12, as opposed to 4.7 in 100,000 for the general population.
Since 1998 the transgender community and our allies have gathered on November 20th to honor the victims of these vicious crimes with the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Last year, one of those victims was a twelve year old girl, beaten to death by her father.
It's time for the injustice to stop, it's time for our deaths to be acknowledged, and for this nation to commit to equality and visibility for the transgender community. We have a voice, and we are asking you to hear us.
