In 1987 the University of Louisiana - Lafayette - formerly Southwestern Louisiana University - ended the football season with a 6-5 record. While the University of Miami beat Oklahoma University in the Orange Bowl to win that year's college football championship, the Southwestern Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns played with heart and spirit throughout the year. In recognition of this fact, we urge the Office of President to declare - via proclamation - the University of Louisiana - Lafayette the 1987 NCAA Division I College Football champions.
Such a proclamation would demonstrate the empowering potential of the presidency. Also, Hurricane Katrina.
