Columbus Day is not acceptable. He didn't really discover America, and instead brought slavery, disease and rape all for personal financial gain.
Instead, let us celebrate the real heroes of America: our Veterans. Let us have a day off from work and school to spend with them and remember the many accomplishments and sacrifices they've made for our great nation. Right now, Veteran's Day is understated in schools and unremarked upon at work.
Do we really want to celebrate a day of a thief over a day of our family heroes?
