The United Sates is the only country without a recognized shutdown time of the year. Americans take less vacation than any other country. What better way to honor our county than to take a week off celebrating it than at the 4th of July, the birth of America? US companies should be urged to shut down over this week and let their employees take much needed rest. To compensate for this cost, companies can lower, slightly, the amount of personal vacation offered as a benefit thus decreasing the accrual liability on their balance sheets.
