Declare wired and wireless high speed internet a public utility to ensure that everyone has cheap world class access.

Despite inventing and commercializing the Internet, the US lags behind other developed countries in terms of the speed and price of both wired and wireless Internet service. World-class Internet service has become essential for individuals and businesses to flourish in the modern global economy and therefore should be considered a public utility. Current US Internet providers are failing to provide the fruits of a free market by engaging in anti-competitive behavior and aggressive lobbying that has outlawed the ability for many municipalities to create local Internet services, thereby stifling competition. Declaring Internet service a public utility would allow municipalities to form municipal providers, thereby creating much needed competition in markets where there is too little or none.
