A petition to decrease copyright terms from life of creator plus 70 years to the pre-1976 term of 28 years (with the option to renew this term once). This measure is designed to recognise the monopolising effect of the excessive copyright terms. Corporations such as Disney (among may others) have had a role in using copyright to continue earnings on their property. This simultaneously ensures their continued dominance and cripples artistic innovation and inspiration.
This measure would be in the best interest of more artists by allowing them to source inspiration from (relatively) contemporary sources and encourage them to continue their creative work whilst preserving their financial security. It would result in a more open, free society.
