Decrease military funding by 5%, and increase NIH grants for improved rehabilitation programs (e.g., speech therapy)

Created by K.B. on February 22, 2015

National Institute of Health grants are given to academic researchers to develop medical and rehabilitative programs (e.g., cancer research and speech therapy). Given the aging population and increasing number of veterans in the U.S., and the shortage of rehabilitation/research professionals, it is important to develop evidenced-based treatment programs that are more cost effective and efficient in their delivery. Moreover, rehabilitation programs allow individuals with disabilities to regain some independence post injury or disease. By allocating more money to NIH research, we can improve the quality of life of millions of individuals.
