Decrease the pay rate of our Federal Congress

With the authority to determine their pay rates, Congress has no regard to their performance in calculating their pay. Given the opportunity, all citizens of this country would vote themselves pay raises. Members of congress are paid $174k or more annually, which is almost 3x the average income of our highest average state. Why? Members of congress are granted a summer vacation through August. This and the holidays not mandatory for all employers to observe constitutes a roughly 215 day work year for congress. Maryland earns, on average, $269.88 per work day, so the members of congress who are from Maryland should earn $58,023.34 annually (269.88x215). Please consider adjusting congressional salaries to reflect the people they represent and disallow raises with no oversight of performance.
