Decrease the salary of congresspersons to $43,000 per year (national avg.) so they better understand who they represent.

Created by A.P. on December 31, 2012

As it stands, members of the Congress and the House of Representatives have an annual salary of $174,000. This doesn't take into account the amazing benefits they receive. Given current events, it seems that they are out of touch with the citizens they represent. As such, I propose that they are paid the national average salary ($43,000) and have their benefits cut dramatically. Perhaps this move would allow them to better understand the people they represent and encourage them to push more reform. Thank you for your consideration.
