This communication tool has been effective at allowing many more citizens to express their concerns and interests directly to the White House. While it can be fairly argued that there has been some frivolous abuse of this platform, it has none the less provided a revealing glimpse into a portion of the American psyche. As such, even failed petitions may have proven useful. Increasing the threshold for a response from 25,000 to 100,000 to avoid the abuse appears to have effectively destroyed any usefulness of this platform as reflected in the sudden drop off in petitions approaching even a small percentage of the necessary threshold. The threshold should be decreased to a more reasonable level, or the platform should be abandoned as a failed experiment.
