Various studies indicate that decreasing minimum wage will help increase employment in this country because employers have to pay less to hire workers for their business. This may slightly increase crime rates due to increased poverty rates, but studies show that more police is not fully necessary for reducing crime. Studies show that overall increased welfare (or workfare) spending in areas such as financial assistance for families with low income will substantially reduce crime. The guidlines for them to receive such financial assistance should be contigent upon the requirement that they continue to work, thus substituting an increased minumim wage while encouraging citizens to work. We need major reform on welfare spending that will force people to work and increase employment.
