Decriminalize Drugs and Offer Treatment to Drug Addicts.

Created by C.M. on October 10, 2014

Drug addiction is an on going issue in the United States. Right now drug addicts are being charged with felony possession and sent to prison. They rarely receive treatment and often continue using within the prison due to smuggling. If they make it through prison, over half of these individuals relapse within a month. Punishing drug addicts is not the answer. This petition isn't asking to legalize drugs, just to decriminalize them, similar to Portugal. Drug trafficking, selling, and smuggling will all still be illegal.
These addicts need help, it is both cheaper and more humane to offer medical support in order to rehabilitate these individuals into productive, positive members of society. Instead of being stuck in the loop of drugs and prison.
