The use and sale of illegal drugs needs to be decriminalized so that people who actually suffer from drug addiction can better seek treatment. It is unacceptable that people are arrested and thrown into prison for using or selling or possessing these substances. It wastes BILLIONS of tax dollars every year when that money should just be spent on building treatment centers and hiring qualified people to treat the afflicted. Other countries, such as Portugal, have decriminalized drugs and their drug addicted population has decreased by nearly 50%. Let's focus on feeding the poor and getting the country out of the financial crisis and stop wasting Billions on prosecution of drug addicts.
