Legalizing marijuana at a federal level allows states the right to create their own marijuana polices. Other vices, alcohol and tobacco, are both legal and considered more dangerous from health and behavioral aspects. Marijuana has already been estimated to be the largest cash crop in California, beating even grape production. Legalizing, regulating and taxing the production and sale of marijuana would create jobs in multiple economic sectors, increase tax revenue to both state and federal coffers, while allow reduced expenditures in the criminal justice system. These savings steam from the non-incarceration of marijuana users and budget cuts for agencies used to prosecute marijuana users and producers. This policy would also deny criminals the profits of illicit marijuana sales.
