Decriminalize Marijuana on a national level

Created by J.L. on September 23, 2011

As a nation, we must realize that legalizing Marijuana cannot be our first step. For decades, marijuana smokers have been considered criminals. Now is the time to put an end that stereotype.

Decriminalization of marijuana is the first step towards gaining acceptance. By the law, it would be legal to carry up to a ounce(28g) of marijuana. If one is searched by a police officer, and he/she discovers it, the perpetrator has his drugs confiscated and a 150$ fine is given. It will still be illegal to smoke, purchase, or sell marijuana.

Through decriminalization, a wider national acceptance could be estabished. Marijuana could develop its rightful reputation as a benign, recreational drug.
