This petition is intended to challenege US lawmakers to decriminalize marijuana for recreational use. The war on drugs is costing us billions of dollars a year, and keeping pot illegal gives the Mexican cartels immense power and wealth.
Tax marijuana as you do alcohol. Use the tax revenue to cut into the deficit, and use the money you save by not chasing down and incarcerating non violent marijuana offenders the same way.
Prohibition has been in effect for a long time, and it's obviously not working. Marijuana is certainly not a scheduleI drug, as it is currently classified. Whoever thinks that this drug is on an equal playing field with herion, meth and cocaine needs to have their head examined.
