The United States government spends more than $50 billion annually in punishing people for acts that do not physically harm the person or property of another. In a victimless crime, there is no apparent victim and no apparent pain or injury. This includes, and is not limited to: recreational drug possession and use, gambling, curfews, seat belt laws, loitering laws, solicitation laws, abortion and contraceptive restrictions.
So the question is, who owns our life? We or the government? Why treat someone who uses marijuana recreationally as a felony criminal when they can instead be charged with a misdemeanor offense? Decriminalization will stop the incarcerating of innocent civilians, while earning the govt. an estimated $150 billion in annual tax revenue.
