It has been estimated that over 100,000 people in the U.S are polygamists. Many of them for religious purposes for example American Muslims or people from breakaway Mormon Fundamentalist groups. Even if a person is only legally married to one person, they can still be prosecuted for living with, supporting and having relationships with other people. Parties should only be granted immunity from criminal status if all involved have entered the marriage consensually.
