Too many citizens are turned into criminals because of simply possessing or using small amounts of illegal drugs.
Being caught just once can be a felony, turning a law abiding citizen into a felon and penalizing them with years of jail time & probation.
These penalties hurt everyone: costing taxpayers money while marking the individual's record which creates difficulties obtaining employment, stripping the individual of citizens rights such as voting, and often hardening them into criminals.
Decriminalizing drug use would ease burdens on the federal budget, as well as enabling law enforcement officers to stop wasting time better do their jobs: protecting and serving law abiding citizens.
Drugs are a health issue, not a criminal one.
Drug users are citizens too.
