The efforts to prevent the sale or possession of Marijuana have been a waste of time and money. Why criminalize a "drug" such as Cannabis when dangerous drugs such as alcohol and tobacco are legal and advertised daily?
In 2007, the arrests for marijuana possession alone were 775,138. This was more than all violent crimes combined. Our prisons were filled with harmless pot smokers, adult and youth, when they could have more room for dangerous prisoners.
Also, a great amount of money being spent on buying marijuana illegally goes to the dangerous Mexican drug cartel. In fact, 60% of their profits come from smuggling across the US border. Ending prohibition on Marijuana would cut profits that go to the drug cartels and hopefully lead to an eventual end
