Gangs, cartels, and overcrowded prisons. These are problems that currently plague the US. By treating addicts like patients instead of criminals, I believe we could reduce drug abuse and greatly decrease the number of people in prison for drug charges. By regulating the sale of drugs by legitimate businesses, we can move that cash flow into the hands of law abiding citizens and out of the hands of gangs/cartels. By taxing the now regulated drugs, we've created another source of income for our government. People are going to abuse drugs whether or not they are legal; it would be more efficient for the USA to regulate and tax recreational drugs.
