Deduct Child Support from Taxable Income

Created by N.C. on February 04, 2016

Fathers (and non-custodial parents) who have partial custody are not able to deduct any of the costs of child care from their taxable income.

This adversely increases father's costs of living in three ways:
- Student loans
- AHA calculations
- Student aid may be denied.

First, income-based student loan repayment calculations are higher for non-custodial parents.

AHA healthcare subsidy figures are miscalculated because support-payers are not able to deduct the substantial child support payments being made every month from their income.

The apparently higher income could cause non-custodial parents to become ineligible student aid for continuing education.
