deem all national elections a national holiday so that all American citizens may vote unencumbered by job constraints.

Besides July 4th, there is no date more important to the existence of our republic than election day. Voting is the single most important benefit of living in a free society. Yet, here in America, of all places, it is becoming increasingly difficult to exercise this right. Giving citizens a full day to get to the polls, unencumbered by work or family constraints, would go a long way toward getting more people involved in the process. Unlike other national holidays, Election Day would not be dedicated to the frivolities of picnics and shopping but to direct action on the part of the American citizenry to make the most of our single most important right, earned through the blood, sweat and tears of those who worked, fought and died for it. Let us honor this day and those who gave it to us.
