Defend the Constitutional Right of Free Speech

Created by L.R. on November 14, 2012

Though the United States claims to uphold free speech, no one can sincerely argue that it has always been enthusiastic in doing so. However, in cases where it has slacked or gone against this duty, it is normally at least subtle about doing so. The petitions on this site calling for the deportation/exile/punishment of those people who signed a petition supporting a popular vote for their state's secession are, in no way, subtle about their oppression of free speech, and need to be reminded of such in an official statement.

As unstable as the global political & economic spheres are right now, it is unlikely that what would essentially be the dissolution of the United States would do anything but create a disastrous power vacuum; those who believe it right, however, still deserve to speak.
