It is time to stop paying incompetent, self interested people to represent themselves, not the interests of the US citizens they supposedly represent in Congress. This petition proposes we eliminate the compensation and benefits for all Congress members, which according to various sources online could save US taxpayers $4.66 billion. If Congressional members refuse to listen to the vast majority of citizens who want them to work together and solve our nation's domestic challenges, most notably issues like the budget and debt ceiling, it is time to stop paying them using taxpayers' hard earned dollars. This should remain in place until a referendum of all citizens of the United States occurs and at least 60% vote to resume payment.
