Airport control towers are a vital control, safety, and security resources at busy airports. Dutchess County Airport (KPOU) lies outside of New York City and serves two Squadrons of the Civil Air Patrol, is a historical part of the Civil Air Patrol's efforts to safeguard our shores against Germans during World War II, and is currently used by National Guard helicopters. The airport hosts charter aircraft, including business jets and charter helicopters that serve the New York Metropolitan area, is home to a training operation that prepares new pilots for Aviation careers, is home to a number of small businesses that serve the local community, and is a stimulus for jobs in the region.
The airport is extremely busy and closure of the control tower will significantly impact public safety.
