Congress passed a law in 2015 ending bulk collection of Americans' calling data, and the Obama administration has stated that they will destroy this data.
However, it is possible that the NSA still possesses digital copies of not only phone call metadata, but also the electronic communications of many or all Americans. These archives could be used by future adminstrations to track, trace, catalogue and intimidate political opponents.
The outgoing Obama administration could, by executive order, destroy these archives.
We ask the Obama administration to destroy the data contained in the NSA's archives on American citizens as soon as possible.
