The big commercial banks borrow from the government at 0% interest and turn around and loan students money for college at significantly higher rates than even the federal loans are given. Students graduate from college with exorbitant debt. Students can consolodate federal grants and loans but private banks refuse to allow students to consolidate because they have too high 'debt-to-income ratio'. Really? Well, graduates can't find work and many are working 2-3 PT jobs, making minimum wage, just to keep up with their student loans. Something has to be done. Private banks have to allow students to consolidate at interests that are manageable. I repeat, the monies that the students borrowed from the banks were borrowed by the banks at 0% interest. Justice??
