Due to the recent announcement of United Airlines leaving Cleveland as a hub we believe that it is pertinent close (and sell) the Burke Lakefront Airport located on prime real estate on Lake Erie. Mayor Jackson has said that the Burke Lakefront Airport is "anchor to economic development." Flights to Burke Lakefront are down 54% since 2000 which hardly says "economic anchor" for the City of Cleveland.
It has been said that Burke Lakefront Airport keeps the "runways at Cleveland Hopkins clear." With United's departure we know this will no longer be an issue. The City of Cleveland holding onto Burke Lakefront does not make sense for the growth of our city and we the people need to demand that it is closed and sold with the intent of lakefront development that resembles cities like Chicago.
