This tax season, more Americans than ever are being saddled with the burden of dealing with an antiquated tax system that is incapable of distinguishing a real tax return from legitimate tax payers, and a falsified version from someone who purchased a social security number from a hacker. Congress has the power to fix the way we all file taxes so that it is impossible to file a fake return in any number of inexpensive and low tech ways. How about verifying that the name and the social security number match the person filing for the return. Or just requiring ALL businesses to "Everify" before issuing a W2 to an employee. Something must be done. Any action would be better than doing nothing, while millions of Americans are forced to endure unnecessary persecution from criminals and conmen.
