Demand that Congress Eliminate the Debt Ceiling

Created by D.S. on April 20, 2013

The elimination of the government’s debt ceiling should be a part of any debt deal.
The debt ceiling brings into question the integrity of the United States’ debt, and it must be eliminated. Congressional debate on the debt ceiling serves only to destabilize the country’s economy. During the summer of 2011, the United States came dangerously close to disaster. By simply considering an American default, Congress sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeting. Finally, members of Congress demanded a future fiscal cliff in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. This same fiscal cliff caused financial uncertainty in the United States for months.
To prevent future Congresses from threatening the nation with default, the Obama Administration must demand that the debt ceiling be eliminated.
