Demand that Congress grant the executive branch the Line Item Veto

Created by B.M. on January 06, 2013

We petition the president to demand that Congress grant him use of a Line Item Veto to be applied to any budgetary items that reach his desk. This is necessary to contain pork and out of control spending and balance the budget, since Congress lacks the ability to do so. All state governors have this power over their legislatures. So that Congress does not cede too much power to the executive branch, the line item veto could, like any other veto, be overridden by 2/3 majority in Congress. But votes to override would be a matter of public record, exposing those members to public scrutiny.
