Military spending constitutes 25% of our national budget.
Congress insists on providing unwanted, unnecessary, and in some cases outdated equipment to the armed forces (see http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/09/army-to-congress-thanks-but-no-... for just one example).
Meanwhile, other areas of military spending, such as veteran health care, are woefully underfunded.
Especially in the face of the fiscal cliff, please urge Congress to work with the actual armed forces and the Department of Veteran's Affairs (which has 1/10th the budget of the DOD) to draft a budget based on their actual needs. Urge the DOD to increase focus on disciplined use of resources and to cut bureaucratic waste.
