For decades the manufactures, due to lower cost of ionization alarms have been placing lives at risk by having UL approve these dangerous devices for use in homes and other habitable dwellings despite inability to detect smoldering smoke. These manufactures have been sued for millions of dollars by families who have lost family members due to ionization alarms inability to sound alarm early enough for safe evacuation. The CPSC , NIST and NFPA and UL have been aware of this problem for decades but have been covering it up and doing nothing to stop it.
