As one of the world’s largest buyers of guns, the federal government has the potential to wield tremendous influence over the gun industry. Thus far, gun companies have resisted implementing a broad range of common-sense measures to prevent legally sold guns from falling into criminal hands. As a result, federally licensed gun dealers are one of the single largest sources of illegally trafficked guns in the U.S.
We ask President Obama to use the government’s power of the purse to deliver a message gun companies can’t ignore: implement responsible practices that keep guns out of criminal hands, or lose our business.
Gun violence continues to ravage our communities. We can’t afford to wait any longer for changes that will end this senseless violence. We ask President Obama to act now.
