A free and unrestrained press is absolutely necessary in a democracy. The founding fathers ensured with the first amendment in the Bill of Rights that the government could never interfere with the press, but to them the unimaginable size and power of international corporations that exist today insidiously undermines the government of the United States. The corruption in every major news and media outlet prevents free speech and, while not directly tied to our elected officials, allows an inordinate amount of political power to reside in a very small number of hands. These organizations openly and blatantly report the news in a highly biased and subjective manner, repeatedly leading people to make uninformed choices in elections at every level of government.
