Spent fuel rods at Fukushima contain enough radioactive material to seriously degrade the ability of modern civilization to continue. The rods are still capable of generating enough heat to cause catastrophic dispersal. Removal of this threat must be the primary focus of the Japanese government. However, Japan is doing an insufficient amount of work to remove this threat. Dry storage casks are the only feasible intermediate-term solution. The casks must be fabricated, the rods must be moved into them, and they must be stored. The President must begin openly discussing this critical matter, and moving our country, and all other countries, into an effective disaster prevention mode to eliminate this threat.
