We, as Americans, can do much better than what we have been doing since 1776. With mandatory retirement we can shorten (or eliminate) the buddy-buddy system of the current political system.
People of all political parties should want mandatory retirement for our elected officials to guarantee "new blood" in our government. This will also curtail the "veteran" politician.
Older elected officials are less likely to want change and change is what we need now more than ever given our current political environment.
