We request the Obama Administration to speak in support of Lt. Nadiya Savchenko, Ukrainian fighter pilot, who has been held in Russia since June 18, 2014. Lt. Savchenko has been spuriously indicted for the deaths of two Russian journalists in the Ukraine (who died after her abduction, as shown by her mobile phone data) and with an illegal crossing into Russia (although she was abducted by rebels).
Lt. Savchenko has been elected to the Ukrainian Parliament (Rada) – and is no longer held solely as a prisoner of war, but also as a political prisoner.
The rule of law is a framework of civilization which should not be flouted.The evidence which has been ignored in her farcical trial should be transparently revisited in proceedings supervised by impartial international observers.
