demand Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan lift the media blackout regarding events surrounding Diren Gezi Park.

Created by J.H. on June 09, 2013

Censorship of the Turkish media over the protest surrounding events at Diren Gezi Park is abhorrent. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is not a dictator, and nations claiming to be modern Republics of any form or fashion absolutely cannot be allowed to silence their people without repercussion. As an important ally in the region, it is vital to American interests that Turkey be stable, and it appears as though Erdogan's responses have exacerbated the problem. However, we have no way to verify what is happening because the free media that existed in Turkey has been gagged. This is anathema to our values as Americans and as the Arsenal of Democracy, and as such our President should be compelled to condemn it in the strongest words.
