In light of reported acts of inexplicable use of force by police we ask that all local and state police departments be demilitarized to protect the citizens of the United States. Police training should also be demilitarized and they should instead be trained to deal with people on a compassionate and understanding personal level. It would be ideal if training for police included at least 2 years of college courses in psychology, sociology and behavioral studies.
A law should be passed that only allows police to discharge their firearms only when they or an innocent victim or bystander is being shot at or explicitly threatened with a firearm or some form of explosive device. Violation of this law should result in jail time for any law enforcement officer.
